Baker’s Hill
What exactly is Baker’s Hill anyway? Well, like the name Cartoon City where you’ll find all your cartoon characters, Baker’s Hill is where you’ll find breads and cakes to satisfy all your needs.
The big and unexpected bonus is that you also get to interact with some life-sized cartoon characters as you walk around the grounds.

Hungry
Okay, so you woke up and were in a rush to get in the van to kick start the city tour. In your haste, you forgot to bring your baon, or snacks, to keep from getting hungry for the tour. And even if you didn’t notice the first two hours pass by, your stomach is keeping track of the time and is now complaining.
Well, you’re in luck as the fates have smiled upon you. Baker’s hill is in the middle of your city tour so you have the opportunity to load up on some snacks. And these snacks aren’t the salty ones that come in foil packs. Nope, these are an assortment of Crinckles, Mamon, Brownies, cupcakes, and Hopia.
Grounds
Baker’s Hill is just a few meters down from Mitra’s Ranch. In fact, we passed it on the way up to the ranch.
Situated a bit lower on the same hill, it doesn’t have the same 360-degree view of the ranch. But then with the sights inside, I doubt if you’d bother looking out anyway.
There are a lot of opportunities to take pictures of. There is a baker, a princess, a monkey, an actress, and a family of ducks. Even the house looks like it came out of a cartoon. And if you want to be a cartoon yourself, albeit on a limited scale, look for the façade of the crocodile hunter and you can welcome yourself to the realm of cartoons.
As you walk deeper into Baker’s Hill, you’ll find a few birds in protective cages to form a tiny zoo. That means that the place isn’t only populated by immobile things. And if your kids haven’t had enough of Mitra’s Ranch, there is a playground for them to swing and slide in.
In between everything else, are tables and benches where people can sit to eat or to just relax in. They are mostly made of cement and are designed to look like tree stumps or rocks in keeping with their surroundings.
It may feel like it is a bit tight because so much is packed in such a small space. So, when you begin feeling that way, all you have to do is take a few steps towards the entrance as that area is less crowded.
Being in Palawan, the hill is also filled with an assortment of plants. Probably in keeping with the cartoon and food motif, one of the containers even had flowers that looked like food.
Not only were the plants helpful in keeping the place cool, the green tinted light is refreshing to the eyes. And since we were here during the day time, there were not pesky mosquitoes flying around so no need for insect repellant.
Food
Well, the cartoon surroundings are quite a bonus for most tourists. But the main reason people are here is for the food.
With a bakery on site, you’ll find fresh bread, cake, and other items that are made on a daily basis. But of all the items here, it is the Hopia that the place is known for. Hopia traces its roots to China and has become quite a popular dish in the Philippines with flaky bread covering a center made of Mung bean.
For those who prefer more international food, there is a Baker’s Kitchen can whip up several styles of pizza for you. And after it is done, you can enjoy it on one of the many tables scattered around the place.
And if you prefer something a bit more formal, there is a two-level full-service restaurant. It also has a separate section to hold more private gatherings. Between the three areas, I prefer level two, or the highest level because it is cooler.
Unfortunately, we weren’t able to try out the food as we still had to head out to our next destination. Since we’ve already decided to come back to Puerto Princesa in the future, we’ll try to eat at the restaurant for our return.
Final Thoughts
Baker’s Hill is known more for the Hopia that they make so finding grounds with cartoon characters was a pleasant surprise as they provided great photo opportunities.
The timing was also right was some of the people in our tour were a bit hungry, so finding a place with an assortment of snacks was perfect.
We’re off to our next destination. Hope you can join us as we continue our city tour of Puerto Princesa.
Till next time, keep your cameras ready, your eyes peeled, and your minds open. You never know where your next adventure will take you!
