Mr. Jones Restaurant
Old-style diners have been making a comeback lately. There’s something about eating in a 60s-inspired diner to bring back memories of the Jetsons to help make meals taste better. And if the ambiance isn’t enough, the food is pretty good too.

Located in the heart of Makati, all you need to to is head on over to Greenbelt 5 where you will find it on Ground level.
If you happen to be in Makati already, its easier to just walk from your office or drop-off point. But if you’ll be taking a car on a weekday, you should be able to find ample space in the underground of parking of Greenbelt. Just be prepared to pay more since flat rates don’t apply during weekdays.
Ambiance
Without even entering the place, the exterior already exudes that quirky 1960s atmosphere. But unlike the baduy, or cheesy, times of the 60s, Mr. Jones features a combination of cool and groovy without leaning too much on the latter.
[Yeah baby!]
From the glass wall that is made up of 45 degree diagonal steel frames, it goes against the horizontal window frames of contemporary restaurants and buildings. Then it has ceiling lights that seem to pulsate with orange energy, all of which helps to make this place stick out from the rest. And when you get in, you get to sit in faux Zebra skinned couches by the walls.
[Rarrr!]
Even the waiters’ tight red shirts go a long way to adding to the atmosphere that you’re not in the present anymore. It kinda makes you want to grow your hair and speak in a foreign accent when ordering food.
Food
Speaking about the food, let’s get that nagging question of price out of the way, shall we?
The answer to the magic question of whether the place is cheap is a resounding “No!”
[C’mon people, you’re in Makati, what do you expect?]
But while the price tag is a tad bit big, the servings are bigger. Yes, some of the servings are big enough to satisfy two hungry diners.
In our case, we ordered the U.S. Beef Ribcap Tapa and Garlic Overload for PhP 295 and were surprised that it had two of everything. Two eggs, two scoops of rice, two servings of vinegar, and enough beef for two.
In fact, if you’ll be ordering the Tapa and splitting it between a friend, you can have your order served on two separate plates so you don’t have to share the plate, utensils, and water for the day!
[Ah yes; save water by sharing everything!]
The only thing that may put off certain lean meat eaters is that the Tapa comes with its share of litid, or tendons. And as the health conscious will say, tendons have are more dangerous to the heart than fat. But they also say that about Chicharon, or Pork Rind, and that certainly hasn’t stopped anyone from enjoying it.
[So eat on!]
There are other dishes that people favor while dining here. There is the Thick Double-Smoked Bacon and Eggs, the Superman Burger, the Big Smackin’ Slow Roasted Southern U.S Beef Ribs, the Wicked Truffled Mac n’ Cheese, the Challah French Toast, and Miss Frenchie’s French Dip.
[And no, I don’t know if Mr. Jones and Ms. Frenchie are an item.]
Now with everything that I listed above, don’t be surprised if your bill is bigger than a serving of U.S. Beef Ribcap Tapa and Garlic Overload. You can pay with a credit card so all you need to do afterward is savor that belly bustin’ fullness while sitting on your tiger-inspired couch.
Final Thoughts
Just like many shoppes in the sixties, Mr. Jones Restaurant isn’t very big. And since it is quite popular with the yuppies, it tends to get filled up pretty quickly.
To get a nice table, you might want to drop by a little bit before 11 in the morning to get a seat inside. There are tables outside, but with this strange hot-cold weather we’re having, you might end up dripping with perspiration before you orders arrive.
Till next time, keep your cameras ready, your eyes peeled, and your minds open. You never know where your next adventure will take you!
